Dr. Andrew Whitaker
Veterinarian

Dr. Andrew Whitaker joined Old Towne Animal Hospital full time in 2016; some of you may recognize him here before, as he is no stranger to our practice. He has provided veterinary relief for us during times of needing an extra Doctor over the past few years. Prior to joining our practice, he established relationships with Erickson Veterinary Hospital in Chico California, and in several other hospitals in and around Southern and Northern California and the Bay Area, providing relief positions for small animal practices. We are fortunate that he has come to join our growing practice.

Dr. Whitaker is from Sacramento California and received his degree in Veterinary Medicine through U.C Davis College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. He and his wife, Shireen, have 4 dogs and 4 cats. He enjoys reading, writing, spending time outdoors, and all kinds of sports, though basketball is his favorite sport activity.

Dr. Brent G. Wooden
Veterinarian

I grew up in Tulare, California, and combined my interest in science and my love for animals towards a degree in small animal veterinary medicine from UC Davis. I started my college education in 1991 at UC Irvine where I met my future wife. I finished my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, home of the Hokies. After receiving my D.V.M. from UC Davis I completed an internship at Animal Specialty Group in Glendale, CA. I joined the staff of Old Towne Animal Hospital when my wife and I returned to Sacramento in 2004.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and biking, and spending time with my wife, my three children, and our 4 dogs and three cats.

At home, he tries to keep a fresh loaf of home-baked sourdough ready at all times.

Dr. Ava

Dr. Ava graduated from UC Davis veterinary school in 2021. She’s interested in preventative medicine, radiology, and surgery and loves working with dogs, cats, and exotics (she’s warming up to snakes). Outside of work she enjoys the outdoors, comedy, and eating diner food.

Dr. Kurt Miura
Veterinarian

Dr. Kurt Miura is a dedicated and compassionate veterinarian who was born and raised in Sacramento, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara, where he laid the foundation for his passion in science and animal care. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from UC Davis, one of the top veterinary schools in the country, where he received rigorous training and hands-on experience in diagnosing and treating a wide variety of animal conditions.

With a particular interest in internal medicine, dermatology, and nutrition, Dr. Miura focuses on creating personalized treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient. His approach is rooted in a deep commitment to improving the health and well-being of animals through both preventive care and medical treatments.

When he’s not caring for his patients, Dr. Miura enjoys spending time outdoors with his half-German Shepherd, half-Malinois mix named Koty. Whether it’s hiking, camping, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, he values the balance of work and play, which helps him stay energized and inspired.

Dr. Miura is proud to be a part of a community that values both the science of veterinary medicine and the art of compassionate care, and he looks forward to helping your pets live long, healthy, and happy lives.
